What BVNK does
BVNK sits in the pay-ins and payouts layer of the stablecoin card and payments stack. Through APIs, its customers can accept stablecoin payments, keep multi-currency balances in fiat and stablecoins, convert between them, and pay out to wallets or local bank accounts.
Its customers are businesses, not consumers: payment providers, fintechs, exchanges and companies paying suppliers or contractors across borders.
The Mastercard acquisition
Mastercard agreed to buy BVNK in March 2026 for up to $1.8 billion, including $300 million in contingent payments, and completed the deal on August 3, 2026. It came after Coinbase and BVNK abandoned talks on a roughly $2 billion acquisition in November 2025.
For Mastercard, BVNK is a way to sell stablecoin plumbing to the banks and payment providers already on its network, rather than issuing its own coin. Mastercard is also a founding partner of Open USD, and BVNK is one of the platforms businesses can use to mint and redeem it.
Global Money Platform
Launched on October 15, 2026, the Mastercard Global Money Platform is the first combined product. Banks, fintechs and enterprises can embed, under their own brand:
- Multi-currency accounts holding fiat and stablecoins side by side
- Real-time conversion between fiat and stablecoins through one API
- Stablecoin-linked cards that spend on Mastercard's merchant network
- Payouts to local bank accounts and cards through Mastercard Move
Who uses it
Payments company Nuvei and card issuing platform Marqeta are among the first to integrate the Global Money Platform, alongside Ontop, Bolt Group and Almond FinTech. See which companies and banks have their own stablecoin.
