Crédit Agricole Launches EURXT, Its MiCA-Compliant Euro Stablecoin
CACEIS, the asset servicing arm of Crédit Agricole, has issued EURXT, a euro stablecoin on Ethereum backed 1:1 by cash and built for B2B settlement of tokenized assets.
Groupe Crédit Agricole has entered the euro stablecoin race. CACEIS, its asset servicing arm, has issued EURXT, a euro-denominated stablecoin on Ethereum, backed 1:1 by cash reserves and structured to comply with MiCA. That is the technical sheet. What matters more is how it was used from day one.
Not a proof of concept
The first operation was far from anecdotal: a subscription into a tokenized Amundi money market fund, settled directly in the euro stablecoin. The settlement runs on classic banking rails with a tokenized asset at the end of the chain, and it works. It echoes what Spiko recently inaugurated with Coinbase and Circle, and it signals that regulated euro stablecoins are moving from demos to live institutional plumbing.
Why the timing matters
- The euro gap is wide. Dollar stablecoins still make up more than 98% of the global market, leaving the euro segment almost untouched.
- US banks are moving fast. Between JPM Coin and PayPal’s PYUSD, dollar-side institutions have a clear head start.
- MiCA was meant to reshuffle the deck. Concrete European initiatives are only now starting to emerge, and EURXT is one of the most credible.
Institutional only, for now
EURXT is restricted to institutional players and CACEIS enterprise clients. There is no retail access and no DeFi exposure. It is a B2B settlement tool designed to make flows on tokenized assets smoother, nothing more and nothing less.
The race is on
Societe Generale FORGE already moved with EURCV, and Crédit Agricole now replies with EURXT. The open question is whether Europe’s large banks can build enough critical mass for a euro stablecoin to matter against the digital dollar. The race has started, but it starts from very, very far behind.
